Music - Young Praise Children's Choir (Ages 4-12)

This choir rehearses on various Friday nights at 7:30 p.m. as called by the directress, and performs on a bimonthly basis.

Formerly called the Cherubs, the children's choir was resurrected in 1997 under the directorship of Eva Wadley and her sister, Patricia Maxwell, and called "Young Praise". The efforts of these choir directors are truly evangelism in action!!!

History
In the summer of 1998, Vacation Bible School (VBS) went mobile to Cedar Glen North Apartments under the direction of Gloria Griffin and Gloria Price. Once the VBS was completed, a Story Hour began. The Story Hour team consisted of Eva Wadley, Patricia Maxwell, and Darrell Maxwell. The Holy Spirit impressed Eva Wadley to extend an invitation to the children to join our Young Praise children's choir. The parents and the kids gladly consented. At first, the apartment children were afraid to come to our church for rehearsals, so Eva conducted an additional rehearsal at the apartment complex to teach the children the choir music. Then the night before the choir performance, all the children would join together to rehearse. There were 21 children who initially participated in this Bible Story/Choir Rehearsal. Out of the 21, 3 were baptized, and 3 requested baptism. 11 children started attending church on a regular basis, and 9 of the 11 were 100% sponsored by the church, including school uniforms, to attend our private church school that year. Eva and her sister provided private tutoring for all 9 children until they were acclimated to the private school setting.

Eva and her sister continued to work one-on-one with these children, taking them on outings, teaching them memory verses, and making sure they participated in and had transportation to church and other outings. The lives of those children and their parents, were forever altered because of their interaction with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The City Temple Church members, the Southwest Adventist Junior Academy staff, and these choir directors are to be commended.
