Choir History
Total Praise, the current name of the youth choir, was truly
a "youth" idea. In August 1996, at which time a
youth choir was no longer functioning, Adolphus "Bud"
Dean was approached about re-organizing the youth choir for
an upcoming Youth Day program. Total Praise has been together
ever since. The Lord has truly blessed the commitment and
efforts of the director, the musicians, the choir and the
support of the parents.
The youth choir is a vibrant and exciting panoply of 60+
voices united in blended harmony and skilled musicianship,
whom the Lord has tremendously blessed to reap constant praise
from members and the general public. Clearly, God is using
the ministry of Total Praise to touch hearts for Christ. Whenever
and wherever the Holy Spirit is at work, the church body is
called to support, pray constantly and collaborate to glorify
God. We are all co-laborers with Christ, and it is our joyful
privilege to work, watch and pray together until Christ returns
in all of His glory.
This choir has been accompanied by top tier musicians such as
Bruce Seawood, Larry Willis, Keith Mitchell, and Dwight Osbrook.
The current musicians are Paul Jackson, Joseph Toliver,
Glenn Robertson, and Maurice Dixon.
How It Started
A group called the Adventist Youth in Action Singing Group
was one of the first youth groups within City Temple Church.
The first youth choir was called the City Temple Youth Choir,
organized and directed by Melody Virgil. Then the New Creation
choir was later organized under the directorship of Oliver
Moore, Jr. and Myrna Beckett Burnside, and new choir robes
were purchased. After that, the youth choir assumed the name
of "Rejoice", which entertained such leaders as
Russell Blaylock, Deandra Campbell, Lynn Coopwood, Carolyn
Williams Medlock, and Melvin Taylor.
